Movement, purpose driven and simplified.

Our unique outlook and approach to fitness, recreation and training is what makes Hatchet Hatchet.  We believe in doing things the right way and for the right reasons, with the right mix of work and play.  Our trainers approach their own fitness development (and one-anothers) with the same methods and principles they use for their clients.  Whether working for ourselves or for you, we aim to develop the body and spirit for maximum quality of life.  To revitalize the systems, strengthen and toughen the frame, and increase ability to move through and engage with this world, for as long as possible.

Move well, then get stronger while moving well.

Guiding Principles.

1.     Human beings need to move to survive.   This is non-negotiable.  It used to be to escape predators or fight, now at the very least it's necessary to escape disease.  Oh, and it still helps with finding a mate.

2.      While most aren't hunting, gathering or walking uphill both ways to school these days, physical fitness still has purpose in the modern world.  It’s not just about “feeling better”, or abs in the mirror, although in many cases these are side effects that most don’t complain about.  Fitness doesn't have to be it's own entity, it can and should still be a byproduct of more meaningful pursuits.

3.     With the right framework, It doesn’t take as much as you think, and it can be done with style and dignity.  You don’t have to feel like an idiot and publicly embarrass yourself, you don't have to give up on fun, relaxing or living, and it doesn't have to turn you into a pretentious douchebag, a meathead or a self-righteous wiener.

4.     You don’t have to kill yourself and go to bed dreading tomorrow’s workouts.  While some of us do train like that from time to time, it’s for a purpose, and you decide if that's for you or if it's necessary for your goals.  You can still get the benefits without puking or destroying yourself - intensity is only one factor on the time-frequency-intensity slider.

5.     It takes some work.  What does working smarter have in common with working harder?  They're both work.  But that work is a lot easier to muster the motivation for when it’s injected with meaning and the steps are simple, straightforward, and laid out before you.  And like any job, if you don't enjoy it and it's not serving it's purpose, then it's time to find a new one - but you still need one.

Do the right work, for the right reasons and the right reward and you'll enjoy the hell out of it, we guarantee it.

The Hatchet Process

Hatchet is different things to different clients.  Some simply know they need to move and want to finally find a way to enjoy it.  Others are already active and demand a more performance driven approach in order to chase down their goals.

Online Questionnaire:  Initial Evaluation.  This process puts client and trainer on the same page, to find out what really matters to the client, the effort he or she wants to put into achieving it (whether a little or a lot), and what they would like to take away from their program - from results to knowledge.

Baseline.  To figure out where you want to go, you need to know where you are.  We'll provide you with the tools and easy instructions to determine your current physical and fitness status.

Goals.  Based on your evaluation and baseline assessment, your trainer will assist you in determining what it is that you specifically want to achieve.

Program and Execution Plan.  Your trainer will then craft a program and development plan for you, whether basic or comprehensive.

Frog Boiling.  They say that if you throw a frog into near-boiling water it will perceive the danger and hop out, but if you place it in cool water and heat it slowly then it won't notice the gradually rising temperature until it's too late.  True or not, it lends us a convenient analogy for one of our programming strategies:  too many programs and fitness initiatives overwhelm and intimidate right out the gates, which leads to dreading workouts, missing workouts or falling behind, and eventually falling off the wagon all-together.  We'll systematically ease you into it, and before you know it, you're fit.

Discipline is a muscle.  So is willpower.  As such they need to be trained, built up gradually, and given time to rest and recover.  Like any muscle they won't do you much good if they're burnt out and pre-fatigued, so they need to be directed efficiently and for the right reasons, not arbitrarily thrashed.

Delivery.  Your program will be delivered online and via mobile app, allowing you to simply follow the days workout instructions step by step.  With one touch you'll have access to text and videos detailing each exercise or movement.

Tracking.  Receive an email each morning detailing the days workout, instructions and challenges.  Don't want the clutter in your inbox?  Simply opt out of email notifications.  You can also check-in notifying your trainer that you've completed your workout, and update your profile with body measurements and weight tracking as requred.

Results.  This isn't just fluffy feel good optimism.  You will see results.

Ongoing.  Maybe that's it, fly away little bird you're on your own.  Maybe you want to expand and build your toolbox, or tackle the next phase in your physical development.  Whether you

Independence

We live in an amazing age, where we can analyze our body metrics using wrist-top devices or the phones in our pockets, and information is just a click away.  With the tools, knowledge and access to quality information out there it's easier than ever for an individual to take control of his or her own fitness development - if he or she can somehow sort through the overwhelming clutter and the bullshit.

Part of Hatchet's mandate is to serve as a curator, to handpick only the best elements of a heavily diluted fitness industry and then help individuals determine which will best suit their needs.

As we said before, we're not babysitters.  Hatchet exists to help individuals take accountability for their own health, wellness and performance, and to provide the tools to make it possible.  We've sifted through the tools and techniques, we've spent the thousands of hours researching, and we've lived the trial and error - so you don't have to.

Community

Hatchet is dedicated to celebrating human movement in the real world, the adventures it enables and the lifestyles it propagates - connecting like-minded people, groups, and businesses, then sharing their stories.
